Un jour de novembre, je scrutais la boite à livres installée à côté de l'école de Mademoiselle. Il faisait froid, et j'avais envie d'un truc léger et doudou. Une romance hivernale, voilà de quoi j'avais besoin! Je tombe sur ce roman qui dit " lecture au coin du feu ". Ni une, ni deux, le livre a fini dans mon sac.

It was November and cold, and I wanted a nice and easy read. A romance. So when I saw this book, claiming to be a " fireplace romance ", in our book box, I took it.

Amanda, une jeune peintre est engagée pour réaliser le portrait d'un enfant, qui habite sur l'île de Caterina Cay. La mère de l'enfant est décédée dans d'étranges circonstances l'année d'avant, et tout porte à croire que c'est le petit garçon qui a accidentellement tué sa mère. Dans la demeure familiale, Amanda rencontre l'enfant, son père, sa tante et sa grand-mère. Et sur la plage, le charmant voisin. Entre le voisin et le père du garçonnet, son coeur balance... mais qui a tué la mère du petit?

Amanda is a painter. She's hired to paint the portrait of a young boy residing on the island of Caterina Cay. His mother died in strange circumstances the year before,a dn everybody seems to think that the boy accidentally killed his mom. At the family house, Amanda meets the boy's father, aunt and grand mother. And on the beach, a charming neighbour. Between the boy's father and they handsome neighbour, her heart cannot chose... and, who killed the boy's mother?

Mon avis - Review

Honnêtement, c'est l'un des pires roman que j'ai jamais lu. Il y a du mélodrame à la pelle, et qui sort de nulle part. Du style: elle rencontre untel, et d'un coup leurs coeurs se mettent à battre à l'unisson. Le pire, c'est quand même qu'au bout de deux/trois jours, elle décide de partir faire sa vie avec un veuf et son fils, parce que c'est trop l'amour fou :p

It is one of the worst book I've ever read. It's so melodramatic, it's almost funny. For example, she meets this guy, and all of a sudden their hearts start beating together. But there's a cold wind and she shivers. Wait, whaaaat? And the worst: after three days on the island, she's met the love of her lfie and is ready to live with a widower and be a mother for his son. Right.

Le petit jeu de Cluedo (qui a tué la maman?) est aussi vite déjoué. J'ai vite compris qui était l'assassin.

The " thriller " part of the novel (who killed the mom?) is very easy to guess. I knew who was the killer very quickly.

L'intrigue est donc lourde, on nous sert un genre de thriller matiné de romance, mais la sauce ne prend pas du tout. Le prix indiqué est de 0.99 dollars canadiens. Je crois bien que c'est effectivement tout ce que ca vaut!

In a nutshell, the story is badly written. It could have been great, but it's insipid. The price at the back was of 0.99 Canadian dollars? I think it's the correct price for such a bad novel!
